What is Soft Pull?

A soft pull, or soft inquiry, is a credit check that does not affect your credit score. Lenders and marketplaces often use soft pulls to pre-qualify applicants and estimate available options before a formal application. Soft inquiries may be visible to you on your own credit report but are not shown to other lenders as credit-seeking activity. A hard pull usually follows if you choose to proceed with a formal application.

Example

A business owner checks potential loan options through a soft pull without any impact on their personal score.
